All cutting and machining operations including sawing, machining, drilling and routing which have the potential to generate dust should be subject to local extraction at the machining/cutting equipment. Workplace extraction should be sufficient to prevent airborne dust level from exceeding workplace threshold limits. Extraction should be combined with HEPA filtration to contain the extracted particulate material. Precautions should also be taken when cleaning and maintaining equipment used for these purposes to ensure adequate protection and safety of personnel engaged in these activities from exposure to increased levels of airborne dust while carrying out these duties.
